On July 17, according to Taiwan media reports, industry rumors show that TSMC's Kaohsiung plant plan will be changed from the original 28nm mature process to a more advanced 2nm process.
Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Qimai said in an interview with the media at the National Training Center today that at the beginning of the year, TSMC proposed to change the process of the Kaohsiung plant to an advanced process, and the two sides have fully communicated that the "ring difference" part will wait for TSMC to make up the relevant information, and then carry out follow-up administrative procedures.
Specifically, due to the change in the planned manufacturing process, it will involve many issues that the subsequent government needs to cooperate with, including water and electricity issues, as well as environmental impact assessment issues, which have been fully communicated.
Chen Qimai said that regarding the change of the process technology, the last time TSMC had explained that it would be changed to an advanced advanced process, everything is based on TSMC's instructions. The municipal government will fully cooperate with some adjustments made by TSMC in the overall layout, including water and electricity issues. "Ring difference" means that after the EIA is passed, if the developer wants to change the content of the environmental impact statement, he must enter the "ring difference" procedure before he can change the EIA content.
