On 8 March, Quti Technology (01478.HK) announced on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that it sold 27.956 million mobile phone camera modules in February, a drop of 28.2% from a year earlier and an increase of 6.1% from a year earlier.
This is the first time since July last year that Qutech's mobile phone camera module sales have fallen back below 30 million units. Just in January, its mobile phone camera module sales of 38.915 million units hit the best single-month sales result since February 2022.
The year-on-year increase was mainly due to a rebound in demand in the smartphone market, while the year-on-year decrease was mainly due to the Lunar New Year holiday factor, Quti Technology said.
Another optical supply chain major, Sunny, shipped 52.067 million mobile phone camera modules in February, up 72.1 per cent year-on-year.
According to Chaodian Think Tank, for the whole of last year, Quti Technology's combined sales of mobile phone camera modules were about 366 million, down 12.3% year-on-year, the biggest drop among the headline companies, and its global second position is facing a strong impact from Ophthalmics.
Quti Technology is expected to reduce net profit by about 35% to 45% year-on-year in 2023.
Although a number of institutions to give a positive forecast of mobile phone terminal sales growth, and the camera module in the last year, the unit price of the positive signals, but a number of optical suppliers for this year's market forecast seems very cautious, that "with the second half of last year is almost even good".
Chaodian Think Tank believes that the mobile phone field is still the main battlefield of the optical supply chain in the future long-term, in the consumer electronics environment is weak, "mobile phone dependence" will become a hard and painful point of business indicators. On the contrary, it is the first driver to get back on the right track of growth.
