9.6 Gbps! Fastest in the world! SK Hynix LPDDR5T verified by Mediatek Tianji 9300!

SK Hynix announced on August 10 that its new generation LPDDR5T (low power double data rate 5 Turbo) DRAM chip has completed the performance verification with Mediatek's next generation mobile platform (which should be the rumored Teguet 9300) application.

LPDDR5T, developed in January 2023, is the world's fastest mobile DRAM, running at 9.6 Gbps per second. SK Hynix provided a sample of LPDDR5T to Mediatek, the world's leading fabless semiconductor company, for testing in February 2023. This performance test was conducted using the next-generation Mediatek Breguet flagship chipset, which is part of the Breguet platform family of mobile aps. The next generation of Mediatek's flagship mobile chipset will be launched in the second half of this year and will feature 9.6 Gbps of memory - the fastest operating speed for a mobile device.

The global semiconductor industry had previously expected that operating speeds of up to 9.6 Gbps would only be achieved through future iterations, such as LPDDR6, which is scheduled to be released after 2026. SK Hynix has accelerated this process with the LPDDR5T.

As the Joint Electronic Equipment Engineering Council (JEDEC) standardized approval process is in its final stages, the LPDDR5T is being prepared for full market availability. SK Hynix predicts that the replacement of DRAM for mobile devices will accelerate from next year as product standardization and market supply begin in earnest.
